Funky Munky Stable has chosen Jean Drolet, based at The Meadowlands, as our Harness trainer.
Originally from Quebec City, Canada, Mr. Drolet arrived in the United States in 1965. His first job in harness racing was at the storied Hanover Shoe Farms.
After working for Bruce Nickells, he went to work as second trainer for Lee Broglio at Roosevelt Raceway, and also assisted the driver with the most wins in harness history, Hall of Famer, Herve Filion.
In 1975, Drolet ventured out on his own. Since then, Jean, assisted by his wife Marthe, has achieved consistent success on the east coast harness circuit.
Jean Drolet stables his horses in Flanders, New Jersey, as well as seasonally at The Meadowlands. |

Funky Munky Stable has chosen Gary Gullo, based at Belmont Park, to be our Thoroughbred trainer. Since he was twelve, Gary Gullo started working before school in the mornings with his father, Tom Gullo, until he broke off on his own in 1980 and began his own stable.
His first winner was Jet Lag Jane for Dr. Star at Belmont Park in 1980. He purchased Dancewiththebride for $40,000 and won multiple stakes with her, including the Francis Labelle, The Mount Vernon, and the New York Stallion Stakes. He purchased Tornadoes for $18,000 and won two stakes. Gullo claimed TNT Red for $60,000 and won The Delaware Small Wonder Stakes. He won the Christmas Past Stakes at Gulfstream Park with Tea Rosy. He purchased Cyber Secret at the Maryland sales for $20,000, having her go on to win multiple stakes races. Won the Garland of Roses with Travelator, first stakes race back after a brief stint as agent for Jorge Chavez. Gullo has won 3 races in one day at least 5 times.
Amongst Gullo’s owners, Gary has trained for actors Jack Klugman and John Forsythe, both tremendous racing enthusiasts, for many years. Gary Gullo is a hands-on trainer, overseeing the entire operation, and continues to build and maintain a successful outfit with his team, which includes Owners participation that is unified and spectacular. |
